By the initiative of a number of cultural activists and literary figures and unwavering support of Mediothek Afghanistan, the “Nay & Nawa” cultural and artistic circle was established a year and a half ago with the aim of bringing cohesion and solidarity among cultural activists and advocates such as poets, writers and artists of broad interest.

From the beginning of its establishment, “Nay & Nawa” recognized its responsibility and mission to work and develop a post-war cultural communication, encourage writing dedicated to promoting peace, and emphasize the revitalization of a post-war culture and art and encourage anti-violence and war literature.

The Nay & Nawa has a broad range of important objectives including organization cultural-art evenings, promoting peaceful coexistence through cultural and social gatherings, publishing and organizing book launch events and works by poets, writers and artists, organizing events to honour those dedicated to cultural-art activities, shaping opinions through culture and art and working with artists throughout country to help establish and expand a strong network of Nay & Nawa nationwide dedicated to promoting peace through literature and art.

Nay-o-Nawa is a mission for future Afghanistan, in an era of war end in which “it is for sure” the country needs a reverse to the cultural values that is distanced from the harsh Jihadist believes entered the country during the four decades of war, for that our mission is focusing on:

  • Changing character, extremism to democracy
  • Re-creation of cultural connections
  • Training in folkloric music, writing and creation of intellectual community with traditional and modern values.
  • Traditional food to be discovered and re-introduced
  • Building of environment in a post war era in which people perception changes
  • from war to development and peace.

Language is the fantastic tool for human being that connected cultures together and established cultures itself to civilization. Nai wa Nawa is an initiative to use poetry as a tool for creation of tolerance and cultural acceptance, as in Afghan (culture) poetry played a key role in mobilizing the people toward demands and changes, they wanted. This time we are committed to build acceptance through the same tool, if in the past used as a driving wheel to create war, this time to create peace.
