Election and the Role of Artists and Filmmakers
O4.07.2013
The upcoming Afghan presidential election is a landmark event for the Afghan population and international community alike, this election will set the course for the future of Afghanistan, and the election is expected to be held in a historically critical timeframe, the coalition military forces led by the U.S will be leaving Afghanistan as its population participant in the election. There are challenges and worries about the election and citizens’ participation.
Artists can play a crucial role in motivating citizens to participate in election through their art and public awareness about the importance of election using their artistic skills and opportunities.
To discuss this with artists and how to mobilize people through art of different forms, Mediothek Balkh invited 35 artists and members of the artists’ union of Balkh province into a joint discussion forum held in Mediothek office in Marza-e-Sharif city.
A participant and artist said that since most of the people/voters are illiterate it makes it more difficult for public awareness activists to get their message across, and this is where the issue of art and drama…comes into play – drama is one of the most effective way of showing people the importance of election.
Mediothek has been working with artist in couple of year, and support them with space and facilities.
