It is of not doubt that the future of any nation relies on today’s children and therefore, it is a must duty to greatly pay attention to children. We believe that the current situation in the country will incontestably leave negative impacts and consequences on the hearts and minds of today’s children. Considering this essence, Mediothek Afghanistan, along side other peace related activities, strives to focus on this particular area and improve the mentalities of Afghan children to positively think about peace and all peace related efforts. To demonstrate this unique responsibility Mediothek Community Center Kabul launched a drawing competition on September 12, 2009 at 2:00pm in Mediothek community center office whose substantial purpose was to pronounce the message of peace. The other main aim behind this great endeavor was also to familiarize children with the word, peace and its significance which through them will be spread out to their families and then to the community as a whole. Not only that, but to also to motivate these children take part in any peace-related activity so they in the long run be the peace-activist in one way or another.
This program was consisted of 120 children including school girls, drawing courses and children who are members of Mediothek Community Center Kabul drawing center. At the beginning of this program, Mr. Hamidullah Zazai, the coordinator of Mediothek delivered his speech whose focus was on the essentials of peace and motivated children to take part in such activities. Continuing that, Mr. Sarwar Mamoon one of the members of the Afghan Civil Society Organizations Network for Peace for peace and Mr. Timur Hakeemyar the rotating chief of this network had speeches and addressed children towards their role and responsibilities as part of this positive change at the national level; they also expressed their sincere thanks for the arrangement of such informative program.
Later on, the competition formally stated and the needed materials for drawing were distributed to the participating children who could draw what they thought is a valid symbol and sign of peace and peace bringing factors. Trophies and awards were rewarded to children who won the first, second and third ranks.
To motivate children and pay deed to what they thought and produced, Mediothek community center considers to place these drawings where the peace day is being conducted. Doing so, will not only encourage children, but will also give the peace message to people. This program was pursued with music and a warmth welcome. The event ended at 4:00pm.
