Eco-Journalists Network in Laghman organized a three-day training workshop under the title of “Training on Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change” in Laghman province.
The training workshop attended by about twenty journalists and reporters from various local news organizations and media outlets, was organized from 28th – 29th of July 2021.
The workshop was conducted by Najibullah Alkozia, who completed a weekly long training of trainers (TOT) program on the same topic in Kabul. “I am sharing what I learnt from the advanced training in Kabul with you”, said Alkozia “in the course of the upcoming three days we will work together to discuss and learn a broad range of topics and I hope that you find the training useful as I did the training in Kabul”
Speaking in the opening of the training, head of the National Radio and TV of Laghman province, Mohibullah Mohib spoke about the importance of such trainings for environmental conversation and raising public awareness about environmental issues.
He thanked the organizers and supporters of the training workshop and added that such workshops and trainings not only help spread knowledge on environmental issues but they also mobilize journalists. He also congratulated the participants for establishing the Environmental Journalists Network-Lghaman, calling it a major achievement for Laghman province, its people and media.
Participants in the workshop analyzed the training very positively and called for other similar programs and trainings.
Arzru, a participant of the workshop and a local media reporter, says, “most of the topics discuss during the training were new to me, I even never heart some of the topics before this workshop and I learn so many things from the training.”
“We have so many problems in our country and despite the seriousness of environmental challenges no one seems to pay attention,” says Rahmanullah Rahmani, a local journalist and a participant “but journalists if trained can encourage citizens and authorities to pay attention to environmental issues.”
Shukrallah Mohabbat Mangal, a participant and a journalist, says that the workshop was very participatory and practical, adding that the trainer really worked hard for collecting such diverse materials and that the training really helped participants learn a great deal about the environment and environmental reporting.
The workshop ended with the formal establishment the Environmental Journalists Network-Laghman and distribution of certificates of successful completion to the participants. The –Eco-Journalists Network has also simultaneously conducted similar training workshops in several other provinces across the country.
