Media and Public Awareness about Election

Media House Kunduz organized and conducted a one-day workshop training program to discus and analyze the role of media in public awareness about election, Hamidullah Baloch, secretary of The Independent Election Commission Secretariat (IECS) of Afghanistan instructed the program, held on Tue, 18th of June of 2013, in Mediothek Kunduz.
Participants had the opportunity not only to discus the role of media in election and public awareness on election, but they also had the chance to learn about election-reporting and effective methods of covering election related issues and topics.
Media House Kunduz has been providing election reporting workshops and capacity-building trainings, on varying levels for local journalists, and this program was also a small part of its various activities.
Afghan Media have played a significant role in the past one decade and in process of several elections held after the fall of Taliban. Despite, making great strides, Afghan media and journalists, particularly young and local journalists need trainings and capacity-building, and Media House Kunuduz is committed in supporting local media through different programs and trainings.
Afghans are expecting a much anticipated election in 2014, but Afghans and international community fear that the election could be marred by widespread fraud if it is not closely watched and monitored by national and international observers and monitors, and Afghan Media can play a significant observing role.
To enable media and journalists to sufficiently play this observing role, Media House Kunuz has been focusing on election reporting and strengthening the role of media in public awareness about election.
