Marking International Day of Peace

Afghanistan still needs to go a long way to reach a lasting and stable peace. To achieve peace, institutions and communities need to work for peace, people should come together to talk peace and talk about peace, and Community and Media Center Balkh has been providing opportunities for communities and people to discuss and share their views about peace.
To mark the International Day of Peace, Community and Media Center Balkh invited members and representatives of civil society institutions, journalists, youths, artists… for a special gathering on the occasion of this day.
Several people, including the provincial head of the Independent Human Rights Commission, spoke to the audience of more than 80 people half of which were female, he expressed hope that this year the International Day of Peace is celebrated with great enthusiasm and sense of hope and responsibility, and it shows that that the Afghan people are coming to realize the importance of this day.
Speakers talked about the role of institutions, such as Mediothek, in peace and peace-building.
In addition to speeches, the program also consisted of poetry reading, theatrical shows about conflict resolution and peace-building, and music.
Community and Media Center Balkh has been particularly focusing on promoting peace-journalism and conflict-sensitive-journalism, through organizing trainings and workshop in different capacity level for local journalists.
