Members of Mediothek Afghanistan had an introductory meeting with Her Excellency Dr. Karima Hamed Faryabi, Minister of Ministry of Economy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Kabul on 13.01.2021
The meeting held in a welcoming atmosphere provided a chance for both sides to discuss and exchange of views on a broad range of issues.
Dr. Faryabi hailed Mediothek’s work and services of two decades in the country and the consistent transparency of its works and its close collaboration with the Ministry of Economy as the key proponent of development and coordination in the country.
In her remarks, Dr. Faryabi pointed that the works of Mediothek Afghanistan in training and nurturing professionals in civic education and media are of tremendous value and importance.
Her Excellency the Minister also reviewed Mediothek Afghanistan as a local entity registered with the Ministry of Economy and expressed hope that this locally registered entity will expand its scope of work and provided much needed programs and services across the country, stressing that keeping its international status is also of great significance.
The support and cooperation of relevant sectorial state institutions are key to the success of international and national non governmental organizations, however as Mediothek’s activities leaned toward peace building issues it has been difficult to gain sectorial support needed for the success of managing peace related activities.
Her Excellency the Minister reiterated here support of Mediothek Afghanistan adding that given the facilitating and coordinating role of the Ministry of Economy, it could and will facilitate coordination with other sectorial government institutions as and when needed.
The Minster also voiced support for the revival of the print publication of Mediothek Afghanistan (Nananay Afghanistan Weekly) which had to be halted due to lack of fund for printing and staff salaries. Dr. Faryabi stated media and press have always top priorities for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Ministry will seek avenues to support the weekly publication to resume printing and distribution.
Under a new initiative the ministry is sitting up a new library and has been collecting and purchasing books for its library and Mediothek Afghanistan has been translating and publishing books on a diverse set of topics for almost two decades now, and on this basis the Ministry’s leadership asked for Mediothek’s support in providing books for its library. In addition, Mediothek Afghanistan will also facilitate and organize a set of trainings in software and IT skill acquisition for some technical employees of the Ministry.
