A concise round-up of Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 book review gathering conducted in Mediothek Afghanistan main office based in Kabul.
The gathering was attended by almost 90 participants; scholars, poets, writers, storytellers, literary critics and ordinary citizens. The event lasted five hours, started at 5:00pm with a radiant and buoyant welcome by the coordinator of mediothek Afghanistan, Hamid Zazia.
Mr. Zazia underscored the pressing importance of such works as under discussion, to the upgrading of Afghan society, culture and literacy rates as never before, Mr. Zazai once again highlighted the firm and resolute commitment of the Mediothek to supporting and facilitating such events, as a way of stepping stone in obtaining an upbeat and a bright future for all Afghan citizens.
The event was a fascinating occasion for a wide-ranging audiences organized by the community center Kabul, mainly to analyze and critique five fabulously written books (Satire and Laughter, Ode and Affection, Shimmering Stars, Apple like Platanus, and Bezel and Gem). By a distinguished author, Mr. Habibzai Following a brief introduction of the author’s file, literary work, academic career, and future plans, few selected poems were read and analyzed.
The author was revered and praised for having a full grasp of his inward emotions in reflecting the Afghan character in ways like non others. The author was especially admired for his unique style and way of representing society and character, contemporary at any time the work being read. The event was lavish and vibrant; suiting and melodic Afghan music, green and black tea to further uplift the already uncontained and enthusiastically attentive audiences. The author, after summing up his work, graciously thanked Mediothek for the unprecedented effort to convey the significance of knowledge, and spreading the culture of book –reading in Afghanistan. The event ended by hospitable dinner.
