The capital of Badakhan is Fis Abad city, geographically it is one of northeastern provinces and from regional division point of view it belongs to the northeast zone. Internally it shares borders with Takhar, Kunar, Kapisa and Pansheer provinces, while externally with Tajikistan, China and Pakistan.
